The 10 coolest sub-credits and communities represented in the R / Place ranking

In a fascinating example of how the Internet works together and separately, Reddit opened / r / place for the first time in five years. / r / place is a digital canvas that is open to all for free, created on the content aggregator’s website. This year was no less chaotic than the first iteration launched on Laughter Day 2017, when communities developed based on simple ideas, and previously existing communities developed coordinated attempts to present themselves.

But it should be said that the space was not without drama. Many small communities and enthusiastic projects have expressed their frustration because of the streamers, flags and the general tendency of large groups to absorb as much space as possible. But through all this the Place has become part of the history of the Internet, in which little by little everyone has been.

Fantasy Coalition

In one of the many examples of communities working together, the Fantasy / Sci-Fi Coalition has been a collaborative effort by supporters of the largest series of literature books like The Lord of the Rings. Dozens of communities, including Reddit, worked on the project Harry Potter, Red Sunriseand Game of Thrones communities. This group demonstrated impressive coordination and collaboration and created something as collaborative as individual.

An excellent example of such cooperation and coordination is the theme of shades of gray – the sandworm that defines boundaries. Dune takes the top, where it meets the image of Gold Roger from / r / OnePiece. Bands are characterized by a love of fantasy series, and they have found a way to build something even better by combining their work.

Flags

German flag on / g / place

One of the most controversial examples of communities taking up a lot of space were flags. Flags are easy to create communities, they are easy to build and expand. These two facts are why many of the earliest projects built on / r / place are national flags from around the world.

The German flag flared up early and spread quickly, completely covering Place’s canvas. This thwarted many small projects that were destroyed in the process, especially as the flag continued to spread more aggressively with each / r / place extension.

/ r / TheBlueCorner

The blue corner is a kind of callback to the first / r / place. In the example of a simple concept around which people come to rally, the Blue Corner was just that – the lower right corner of the canvas, which the community decided to keep blue. Even when the canvas was expanded (three times!), The angle remained blue.

However, this corner is not without drama. Towards the end of the event, Russian streamer Bratishkinoff made their own coordinated efforts to leave their mark on the site. The white-haired boy in the frog hat took up most of the corner over the last day, disappointing Blue Corner supporters who held their position as best they could.

/ d / Anarchy Chess

If there was any word to generalize / r / place, it would be “anarchy”. That’s why / r / AnarchyChess has developed such a firm hold on its territory at the top of the canvas. / r / AnarchyChess is a subredit of chess humor that is extremely active for its size. The most common jokes revolve around en-passat and other absurd chess moves.

The fact that subredit covers anarchy gives them the perfect way to integrate other communities into their work while they develop their own. It’s hard to say where the game went in the last moments / r / place, but with a full board of characters, from Hedgehog Shadow to Vario and Luigi, everyone seemed to win.

/ r / PlaceDrees

Another simple concept that has grown rapidly, / r / PlaceTrees has developed with a simple love of nature and an easy way to make full use of the simple color palette provided by the user. This joint project would have sailed many times during this year’s term / r / place, but found many fans in strange places.

For example, / r / Trees is a subredit that revolves around marijuana lovers, and in an ironic twist / r / MarihuanaEnthusiasts is a subredit dedicated to trees and their gardening. Both communities were involved in the development and distribution of trees across the / r / place space.

/ g / Kirby

When drawing on a sheet of paper, most people by default use simple emoticons, shapes and colors (if any). These three faces are the essence Kirby, a video game character with a pink ball with a recent release. Kirby’s main ability is to copy others, providing ways to integrate other communities and concepts.

The simplicity of its pink and round shape, as well as its recent surge in popularity have provided / r / place users with a relevant character to play, including several in each canvas extension. Whether big or small, this adorable pink character made it easy for users to gather around and make an effort.

Support for Ukraine

An image of the Ukrainian flag stretching across / r / place

In a rare example of an online community coming together to support a common cause, one of the strongest and most enduring flags on the map was the Ukrainian flag. The support for Ukraine was a small but significant demonstration of the support of all the communities that worked around and with the flag to preserve this statement about the current war.

Support for Ukraine spread to all communities when the event continued from the beginning, and many communities and projects took steps to incorporate the colors of the flag – yellow and blue – into their works.

/ r / Star Wars

Two examples of art

Not surprisingly, the multibillion-dollar franchise with millions of fans is capable of creating and maintaining several works of art on canvas. The Star Wars the franchise was very well represented on / r / place by two great works of art – the first and most iconic Star Wars a poster as well as a duel between Anakin and Obi-Wan on lightsabers.

These large-scale works of art were among the first to be infected. “Among us plague: – the insert spreads quickly Among us characters, or “beans,” in complex works of art where they would not be noticed. But despite the inconsistency of the franchise, Star Wars fans seemed to hug the suspicious characters.

/ r / OnePiece

One Piece is one of the longest anime and manga series to date, dating from the late 90’s and continuing to this day. The series is fast approaching its finale, and fans are at the peak of their power – as evidenced by their two large-scale and well-coordinated works of art on / r / place canvas.

As mentioned above, one of these pieces is located above the Sci-Fi and Fantasy Coalition, and is a restoration of a manga panel featuring a legendary figure in the Gold Roger universe. Another image was built on the last section of the canvas and shows shots of the main members of the straw hat pirate team.

Void

/ r / Place's 'Void' complete with a weeping face of blood

One of the most diverse and sharply contrasting images taken on / r / place did not actually have any community behind it. The XQC streamer takes on a lot of responsibility, but Void appeared long before he became interested, and probably wouldn’t have needed much guidance. Void is a general term for the large-scale spread of black pixels on a canvas – and what usually appears from within.

The void appeared and disappeared several times during / r / place, especially when the canvas was expanded. The white space of a blank page is intimidating, so many people go with the first wish – to cover it with black. Inside the black space will spread disturbing images of skeletons, magical horrors and other internal images, which are probably in the purest forms of the Internet image. All this happened with relatively little coordination – only the online community has made its mark.
