The new series “The Rivalry” – can you think of a better way to start the regular season?
“In fact, there’s no bigger stage in the Premier League baseball than the Yankees-Red Sox on opening day,” said third-base Yankees Josh Donaldson, who is making his debut in stripes. “I think it’s going to be exciting and I know a lot of guys are waiting for this moment.”
The gates for the competition will open at 11 am. This is the first time since 2013, when the Red Sox and the Yankees met on the Opening Day (this game was also held in the Bronx), and only the fourth time in the last 30 seasons (since 1993).
Actor and comedian Billy Crystal is scheduled to hold a ceremonial first inauguration, and singer and actress Shoshan Bean will perform the national anthem. Pre-game ceremonies are scheduled to begin at approximately 12:30 Eastern European time, and both teams will be represented at baselines.
“It’s going to be crazy,” Red Sox left-back Alex Verduga said. “Last year we were able to hold our home in Boston, the first for me. Now we are going to go to New York and it will be exciting. We know what kind of crowd there will be. The atmosphere will be electric. The [fans] will speak as they speak. It will be fun. “
The Red Sox won 92 games last year, defeating the Yankees in the AL Wild Card Game and passing the Race in the AL Division before falling to the Astros in the AL Championship of six games. The Yankees have also won 92 games, but due to a tie-break their last nine innings have been played at Fenway Park.
“I’ve been looking forward to this start for the last week or two,” Evaldi said. “I am definitely happy about it. It will be very important for us to go out and set the tone in order to be able to face them on the road in their place. ”
When is the game and how can I watch it?
The first filing is scheduled for 1:05 p.m. on ET on Friday and will be available on MLB and MLB.TV. The game will be broadcast on NESN and YES Network. It can be heard on WFAN (660 am, 101.9 FM) in the New York area and WEEI (97.3 FM) across New England.
Red Sox: The Red Sox, who is entitled to the Yankee embankment in Cole, is performing with his line-up “A,” which will feature Trevor’s recently acquired story. From Story and Rafael Devers to J.D. Martinez and Xander Bogaerts, the Sox will once again have one of the most powerful lineups in the game. Having strong key players such as Verduga and Kike Hernandez also helps. If the second year from first base Bobby Dalbeck reaches the strength he is capable of, Boston’s lineup could be dire.
1. Kike Hernandez, CF.
2. Raphael Devers, 3B
3. Xander Baghertz, SS
4. J.D. Martinez, D.G.
5. Alex Verdugo, LF
6. History of Trevor, 2B
7. Bobby Dalbeck, 1B
8. Jackie Bradley Jr., Russia
9. Christian Vazquez, S.
Yankees: This is a new order of bombers that hopes to move the improved production it showed in the second half of last season. The March trade with the Twins imported Donaldson and Izia Keener-Falef to bolster the left side of the backyard, while the return of Anthony Ritz offers a patient and balanced approach at the top of the lineup.
Who are the starting pitchers?
Red Sox: Evaldi is not used to playing matches against Cole and the Yankees. They faced off in the Wild League game of the American League last season, where Evaldi came out on top, holding the Yankees one run over 5 1/3 innings in which he missed none and struck out eight. In 16 games against New York since moving to Boston, Evaldi has an ERA of 1.03 (including postseason). This is the third year in a row Evaldi is taking the ball to the Opening Day for the Red Sox.
Yankees: Cole begins his third season in Yankee uniform to achieve his stated goal of winning several World Series titles throughout his contract. A hamstring injury hampered Cole’s performance late last season, though he walked in the American League with an exhaustion and walkout ratio of 5.93, inflicting 243 bounces against 41 moves in 181 1/3 innings. Cole also led AL with 16 wins, bringing the 3.23 ERA in 30 starts.
How can the bullpen line up after the starter?
Red Sox: That’s where it gets interesting. Red Sox manager Alex Cora hasn’t named the set closer, and he may not name it. It was an awkward spring workout for the Red Sox bullpen, as some key pitchers lacked speed and / or team. However, Gareth Whitlock is not in the category of pitchers who fought. He was stretched as a starter and could give Cora as many as four or five innings in the opening match for Evaldi. Matt Barnes, Ryan Brazier, Jake Dickman and Matt Stram are other pitchers that Boston may use in recent innings. Outlook № 25 Cutter Crawford got a seat in the bullpen, but is more likely to be used on days when Whitlock is unavailable due to his ability to make multiple innings.
Yankees: The bullpen of the Yanks is largely tuned, although the approach of Aroldis Chapman may change some – and the club has even talked about using Chapman in tasks with more leverage in the eighth inning. Jonathan Laisigo, Chad Green, Clay Holmes, Lucas Lutge, Wendy Peralta and Michael King are starring in significant roles, as well as Miguel Castro, pickup in early April with the Mets.
Any injuries to note?
Red Sox: Ace Chris Sale got a stress fracture in his right chest during a throw during the lockout, and there is still no schedule when he will be ready to start throwing. James Paxton, a former Yankee, is also recovering when he recovers from Tommy John’s surgery. The “Big Maple” would like to return at some point in June. The Red Sox do not have their top left substitute on opening day, as Josh Taylor is on the list of injured with a back injury.
Yankees: It was an extremely healthy spring for the Yankees, who have been bitten by many injuries over the past couple of years. Right-hander Domingo Herman is on the list of injured for 60 days with a right shoulder problem, and catcher Ben Rortvedt missed a chance to get on the opening list due to a sprained right oblique side. Left-hander Zach Britton is recovering from Tommy John’s surgery and will not be available until at least August.
Who’s hot and who’s not?
Red Sox: Devers was a monster of Spring Training, a puree of six homers in his first 26 on-bits. Dalbeck also spent a strong season in the Grapefruit League. And unlike last year, he thinks he will make it to the regular season. The story began slowly, which is not surprising given his late arrival at camp. Martinez is still looking for his stroke.
Yankees: This spring, Kyle Higashioka performed with the Hammers family in the majors, thanks in part to advice from hour-long conversations with Donaldson. Aaron Judge often demonstrated his extra-base strength, while Keener-Falefa led the club with 13 strokes. Joey Gala had a serious spring, 13 times in 30 battles.
