Biden’s news today: President jokes about “good old days” with Obama when he stops student loan debt for the sixth time

Upon his return to the White House, Obama jokingly called Biden “vice president.”

Barack Obama visited the White House on Tuesday at his first public event at the mansion of executives since leaving office. He was involved in the celebration of the Affordable Care Act, aka Obamacare, when Joe Biden announced changes to the health care program that would result in up to 200,000 uninsured Americans eligible for new coverage.

Many Democrats are hoping for this visit that Mr Biden will benefit from the still high approval rating of his former boss among the Democratic base. Mr Biden has recently struggled to raise his bad reputation in the polls, and there are serious fears that apathy and frustration among Democrat voters could give Republicans a chance in this year’s by-elections. Mr Obama says Democrats have something to say to win the by-elections, they “just have to say it”.

Meanwhile, on Capitol Hill yesterday, the Senate Judiciary Committee voted 11-11 for the nomination of Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson to the Supreme Court. The result will not prevent the nomination of Mrs. Jackson to pass to the Senate; she seems to already have the support of 53 senators, and Republicans Susan Collins, Lisa Murkowski and Mitt Romney are breaking ranks to support her.

U.S. Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin meets Matt Goetz

U.S. Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin was so annoyed by the bizarre lines of interrogation of Republican Congressman Matt Goetz that by the end of Mr. Goetz’s five-minute round he eventually quarreled with a Florida representative.

On Tuesday, Mr. Austin was on Capitol Hill to testify at a House of Representatives hearing on the Defense Department’s request for a budget for the 2023 fiscal year, but Mr. Gayetz apparently decided to use his time to scold the former chief U.S. Central Command for what he described as failures in U.S. defense caused by the Pentagon accepting “wakefulness”.

In particular, Mr. Gaetz was interested in a lecture by French economist and author Thomas Pickett at the US National Defense University entitled “China’s Response: Arguments for Global Justice and Democratic Socialism.”
