Best weekend deals: Xbox Series X / S in stock, Samsung microSD cards and more

Ars Technica

It’s the weekend, which means it’s time for another Dealmaster. Our latest selection of the best technical deals from all over the Internet includes PSA rather than direct discount: if you were interested in buying one of the latest Microsoft game consoles, Xbox Series X or Series S, it looks like you can finally do it slowly beat the scalpers or constantly monitor the stock trackers.

The more powerful X Series, for example, has been available at Walmart for most of the past few weeks. There’s no $ 499 discount from Microsoft’s MSRP, and you’ll need to sign in to a free Walmart account to place an order, but the process of actually getting the Series X now looks much more stable than it has in the past year and a half, during which time the console usually either sold out in a few minutes or not available at all.

When Walmart runs out, Microsoft itself has the X-Series in stock, albeit as a package. This package includes a console, a second controller (one comes in a box) and one of several games. The cheapest version of the game is the recommended Ars Assassin’s Creed Valhalla for $ 24, though the choice also includes a newly recognized RPG Elden’s Ring at full price. If you’re still planning on taking an extra gamepad and one of the available games, this isn’t the most outrageous set we’ve seen in recent months.

The S-Series has been a little easier to find lately, but now we’re starting to see real deals on the device from some retailers. At the time of writing, for example, Newegg will allow you to withdraw $ 30 from a regular $ 300 console if you use the code “APRBRA338” when ordering.

We used to parse the differences between the X Series and the S Series, but in short, the X Series is a more secure future of the two, offering a more powerful graphics processor, more memory and more storage space (1TB vs. 512GB in the S Series). If you have or plan to buy a 4K TV and take care to achieve the highest graphics settings in your games, it should cost an extra $ 200. The Series X also has a floppy drive, so you can pick up used games, while the Series S can only play digital downloads.

However, the Series S can play all the same games as the Series X, and although it’s not designed for higher-end 4K games like the Series X (instead of aiming for 1440p resolution), it still brings a notable step forward in performance over the old Xbox One. It’s also much more compact hardware, and the lack of a drive doesn’t stop it from pairing well with an Xbox Game Pass subscription if you’re already paying for it. If you are looking for a secondary console or just a way to play Halo, Powerand other Xbox games on the smaller screen, it’s a good value.

There is still a good chance that these consoles will be sold out by the time you read this, and unfortunately, supplies for Sony’s PlayStation 5 are still hampered by component shortages and intense demand caused by the pandemic, many gaming devices have encountered for the last two years. But if you’re sold in an Xbox game library and prefer to use a console over a gaming PC, access to the latest generation of hardware seems to get easier.

However, if you don’t need a new console, our review also includes a new low price for Samsung’s 512GB micro Select SD Select version, as well as discounts on Anker’s recommended USB-C chargers, board games, 8BitDo gamepads, LG OLED TVs , game monitors and more. You can read our full list below.
